The background philosophy and the ultimate target of the International Society of Experimental Linguistics is the promotion of linguistic knowledge with the use of experimental methodologies. The ExLing Society will work to arrange international conferences and workshops, in the first place the annual International Conference of Experimental Linguistics (ExLing Conference), to offer support for scholarly endeavours pertaining to experimental linguistics and language studies, and to serve as an informational resource for members and interested parties through the hosting and maintenance of a website.
The ExLing Society will focus on the following objectives:
The organisation of conferences, workshops, and seminars.
Promotion of international research and collaboration.
Publication of scientific achievements and educational textbooks.
Setup of interdisciplinary research and project group networks.
Support of young scientists and the promotion of scientific excellence.
The research domains and the objects of study of the ExLing Society are predominantly interdisciplinary, including traditional subjects such as phonetics, morphology, syntax and semantics as well as recent and emerging disciplines such as various aspects of language disorders and brain functions, cognitive linguistics and natural language processing and machine learning. The ExLing Society promotes cross-university collaborations and develops university and research centre networks in an international context.
